Thermo Numericals

Steady-Flow Equation

1.
In a gas turbine power plant, gases flow through turbine at 17kg/s and power developed by the turbine is 1400,0000W. Specific enthalpies at inlet and outlet is 1200kJ/kg and 360kJ/kg respectively. Velocity at inlet and outlet is 60m/s and 150m/s respectively. Find heat flow rate (Q dot) and area of inlet pipe (A1). Specific volume of gases at inlet is 0.5m3/kg. Take z1=z2=0.
(Q dot = -119.35kW, A1=0.141m3)

Paper Patterns - Analog and EMC

Thermodynamics
Course is included upto "Heat Engine". Paper will contain numericals and theory. Numericals include those which Sir Jawad has taught in the class or of similar nature (i.e. their values might be different). Bring steam tables along with you, as they will not be provided to you during the exam.

Electric Machines (only for Sir Arsalan's portion)
The paper will not entirely be of numerical type, rather it may include some theory questions (short questions), labelled diagrams (three dimensional, with proper current and emf directions), derivations and certainly some numerical based questions (sample questions will be available at Star Photocopy). Syllabus includes everything Sir Arsalan has discussed in his lectures, but armature reaction and equations of torque (topic 8.5), taught in the last lecture to some sections, are not included. It will be upto power losses topic.

Analog Electronics
It will include 70% numerical portion and 30% theory ( from lecture notes...if you've made any! ;) ). You can also consult Bogart's book as a reference. Syllabus doesn't include common collector amplifier and FET amplifier (which was discussed in the last lecture of some sections). So, you've to prepare only upto common base amplifier.

Linear Algebra
The course is included upto Exercise 2.2. Sir Haroon Babri refused to tell the actual paper pattern, but it may have a flavor similar to Quiz 1.

Sada Munda Kho lya gya!! .... :(

We are a bit Sad...Though , this post seems to be open for everyone....But it's really somethin' particular to someone....

These dayz , it's usually sounded in the 'quiet' atmosphere of section D

"Sada munda kho lya ne !!"......Confused???So a stranger would be. However , we believe that the intended person will get it at once..'WO' smajh jae ga!

(Commentary on it is stricktly restricted to the ppl who have an idea ov the matter..)

'D' beats 'B' "cricketly"...!

After a tiresome battle between the "players" of B and D section (of 08', obviously!) fought in the main stadium, the D'z scored 96/7 in 10 overs, while B'z only managed to generate 69.79% of D'z score and they completely vanished from the pitch (67/10 you "dumbs"...). Haider, alone, of D scored even more than the whole lot of 'B'. A great batting, really, indeed, of course!

'D' rocks......! (B also rocks but only about 69% of what 'D' rocks)

Linear Homework #1 - Hints & Answers

1. No. of coins of Rs. 1 = 4
No. of notes of Rs. 10 = 12
No. of notes of Rs. 50 = 4
No. of notes of Rs. 100 = 7

(Take the variable representing the no. of coins to be equal to n, where n can range from 1 to 4. You'll see that it will be 4, because for the other cases, it results in a fractional number of notes, which is absurd....aint it??)

Types of Turbine - Thermodynamics Assignment

On the basis of collecting energy, potential and kinetic, from the working fluid, turbines are classified into the following two types:

(a) Impulse Turbines (Velocity Based)

These turbines change the direction of flow of a high velocity fluid or gas jet. The resulting impulse spins the turbine and leaves the fluid flow with diminished kinetic energy. There is no pressure change of the fluid or gas in the turbine rotor blades (the moving blades), as in the case of a steam or gas turbine, all the pressure drop takes place in the stationary blades (the nozzles).
